I am so excited to announce a brand new blog series to you! This series has been in the works for over a year, but it took a bit of a back seat during the Come to Jesus launch.
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, May seems like the perfect time to launch this brand new series entitled Lies Moms Believe. This series is a compilation of articles written by 5 moms—three are in the thick of parenting littles and two are in the “grandparent stage” of motherhood. I really wanted to have a mix of generational voices in this series so that it would be a help to moms of all ages. Plus, as a young mama, I need to have older moms sharing their experience and the wisdom God has given them over their 30+ years of parenting!
What Lies Will We Cover?
Here’s a list of the lies that will be covered throughout this series:
- My child is the best. (by Gretchen Fant)
- I don’t have time to be in God’s Word. (by Christa Threlfall)
- My children owe me. (by Denise Cunningham)
- I can’t admit faults to my kids because they won’t respect me. (by Abbey Wedgeworth)
- My children are too young to understand the Bible. (by Christa Threlfall)
- I don’t have time to serve my husband. (by Lauren Washer)
- My child will never lie to me. (by Gretchen Fant)
- I have to be the best. (by Angela Jeffcott)
- I need to resolve my child’s conflicts. (by Gretchen Fant)
- Theology is not for Moms. (by Christa Threlfall)
- My life is over when my children leave home.(by Gretchen Fant)
- If I parent correctly, my children will turn out well. (by Gretchen Fant)
- I need to have it all together. (by Christa Threlfall)
- I’ve always been angry. That’s just the way I am. (by Angela Jeffcott)
- I’ll never be a good enough Mom. (by Christa Threlfall)
Do you struggle with any of those lies? I know I do! I am so excited to learn along with you during this series!
Who Are the Contributors?
Five other moms are joining me in this blogging series and I’m thrilled to introduce you to them:
Gretchen Fant
Location: Easley, SC
Years Married: 38 years (in august)
Number of Kids: 5 kids (and three spouses, that I consider to be my kids!), 10 grandchildren
Fave Bible passage: Psalm 67:1-2 – our family verse
Fave way to recharge: I recharge by making something. I love to sew
Current prayer for your children: I pray every day for my two singles: that they would love God’s Word and marry a godly spouse. For the others, I have a list of qualities for their lives that I have divided up into the 7 days of the week. I pray for something different for them every day.
Fave snack/drink: I LOVE coffee! I also love sweets but have had to limit them.
Abbey Wedgeworth
Lauren Washer
Location: Norfolk, VA
Years Married: almost 13
Number of Kids: Six. Ages 10, 9, 7, 5, 3, 1
Fave Bible passage: hard to pick just one! But I’ve always loved Colossians 1:9-12, and use it as a regular prayer for myself and others.
Current prayer for your children: that they would understand their sin and need for Jesus. That he would capture their hearts, and they would desire to walk in faith and obedience to him.
Fave snack: graham crackers with peanut butter
Fave drink: coffee w/lots of cream and sugar
Denise Cunningham
Number of Kids: 2 daughters here, one in heaven (Ashley Marie 1987) Whitney Pendell (married to Paul). Alli Isbell (married to Andrew). Twin grandsons, sons of Alli and Andrew – Shiloh and Shepherd, 2 years-old and adorable! =)
Fave Bible passage: Psalm 73:25, 26 – This passage reminds me that I am weak, but He is strong!
Fave way to recharge: Taking the scenic route with Dale!
Current prayer for your children: As adults, I pray Colossians 1:9-11 for my girls and their husbands.
Fave snack/drink: I’m not a big eater until it comes to popcorn! I love it! We always drink orange juice with it…it’s strange to some but delicious to me!

When will the series begin?
Monday, May 12! One lie/truth will post each Monday and I’ll link them all back here so you have easy access to all the posts in one spot.
My prayer for this series is that the Lord will use it to confront lies in my thinking
