Day 23 :: Behind His Back

Lately, I’ve been meditating on the book of James. James 3 is such a convicting passage because it speaks about the tongue.

Check out what verses 8-10 say:

“No human being can tame the tongue.
It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
With it we bless our Lord and Father,
and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.
From the same mouth come blessing and cursing.
My brothers, these things ought not to be so.”

Here’s some more practical advice on the subject:

“Before we married, we vowed to each other that we would never criticize each other to other people. I’ve been around ladies who seem to enjoy telling all the little things about their husbands that annoy them.  If it had not been for that promise I’d made so long ago, I probably would have been tempted to join them.”

~ from Barbara, married 34 years

How easy it is to say one thing in front of someone and the complete opposite behind their backs.

What have you said today – has it been a blessing or a cursing?
