Workin’ With What I Got…

Do you remember looking at those picture books when you were little – the ones where it showed a stripe up close and you had to guess what it was, then on the next page there was a picture of a zebra?

You don’t remember those?

Hm…well, I loved those books. And just in case you never had the opportunity to play that game, here’s one for you today. 😉

Do you know what this is?

Do you shop at Walmart? If so, you might recognize part of that picture up there… 😉

Alright, in case you’re stumped – here you go:

Yessirree, that is a family size can of condensed soup.

Would you like to know what I do with them?

Well, they are my companions in distress. What distress, you ask? The distress that the offending person below inflicts on me:

(In reality, I really inflict it on myself whenever I pop in one of my Jillian dvds. Buuuuut, that’s beside the point.) 😉

Yes, these lovely cans are my arm weights. They work very well. Very well indeed.

They are large and don’t have little grip-py stuff on them, but I have never dropped one yet – and I’ve been using them for a while. 🙂

What’s the point of me telling you about my family size condensed soup weight cans?

hmmm…good question. I don’t know. 😉 hehe kidding!!

I think the title sums it up pretty well: work with what ya got. So I don’t have arm weights with little grip-py stuff on them. But I can still get the workout done with these big ol’ cans!

So maybe you don’t have a big freezer where you can store lots of food in and have big “freezer cooking” days. But I bet you could find room for a couple meals in there.

Or maybe you don’t have a beautiful home. Maybe it’s older and definitely showing its’ age. But you can still clean it well and make it as beautiful as possible! (that’s something my hubby taught me) 🙂

Basically, I like to think of my weight cans as a lesson in contentment. It’s a relatively small thing, really. But it’s a good reminder for me.

True Contentment isn’t an attitude of “Well, this will be really tough, but I think I can make it.”

It’s more of an excited “I don’t know how this is going to work out, but I can’t wait to see how God does it!”

That’s the attitude I strive to have every day.

“Keep your life free from love of money,
and be content with what you have,
for he has said,
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” ”
Hebrews 13:5

It’s funny what a couple cans of soup can teach you… 😉

So, how about you?
How do you work with whatcha’ got? 😉

Happy Friday!
I trust you will all have a fabulous and – possibly even a tiny bit relaxing!!! – weekend!  🙂

  5. Yep, that’s what I say too. Work with what you got. When you work with what you got you get less whiny and more grateful.
