A few months ago, I was struck by this thought:

the more I have, the harder it is to let go.

I was mainly thinking about stuff – although this could really apply to anything you have, whether it’s your stuff, hobbies, personality, etc.

Jesus said it better when He said, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Do you know one of my biggest motivations for simplifying? It’s so I have less stuff to hold me back.

You see, I’ve figured out something:

My desire for stuff doesn’t subside as I get more.
Actually, it just increases.

There will always be something newer. And nicer. Better quality. Fresher design.

I want to figure out how to say, “enough.”

I don’t want my heart to be wrapped up in stuff.
I don’t want to have a tight grip on things from this world.
For sure, I don’t want my treasure to be sitting on my shelves and hanging in my closet.

I want to treasure Christ.

And that — is why I simplify.
