31 Day Simplify Series :: Simplified Closet {day 28}

Simplify 300

I told you about some of my closet problem last month. It started when I got so sick of having a million sizes of clothes in my closet. And then I found Unfancy. And then I heard about Into Mind {also through Unfancy}.

And guys, I’m totally into cleaning out my closet now. My poor husband. There have been several days when he’ll come home from work, I’ll try to give him some time to acclimate to a home with 3 children, and then I just can’t take it anymore and have to tell him all these great epiphanies I’ve had about my closet and how it needs to change. He’s a patient guy. I attribute some of that patience school to myself and my jabbering.

Anyway. The good thing is that this whole closet purge thing is NOT about getting rid of all my clothes and buying new ones. not. NOT. NOT.

It’s about ridding the extras that I don’t wear because:
a) they’re ripped, stained, etc.
b) they don’t fit
c) they’re fine, but I just don’t wear them. so why save them when someone else could use them?

Last week, I went through my closet and pulled out 2 blazers I never wear. I don’t think I’ve worn them in 2 years. I decided to try them on to see if they fit. Do you know that the sizes were a size 4 and a size 10? And neither of them fit. Yet I’d been saving them in my closet because they were in really great shape. No more.

I hereby refuse to let clothes take up precious white space in my closet if I never wear them!

Ahhh…it felt good to get that out of my system.

I’m also doing something else which is totally revolutionary. For me, at least.

I hereby refuse to buy any more articles of clothing until I have purged my closet,
determined my style,
and figured out closet holes.

The only things I eliminate from that refusal are the items I talked about here. So if you see me buying something off that list, don’t snatch it away from me and remind me of my refusal. Or I might have to pull out my non-existent Krav Maga skillz. I know you’re scared.

Now. If you feel like your closet more closely resembles this

instead of this:

then perhaps you should do this challenge along with me. I’m following the links from Into Mind – specifically these:

Wardrobe Diagnostics {this is where I started}
Wardrobe Detox
Does Your Wardrobe Fit Your Lifestyle {what I’m doing right now}

Although let’s be honest. I’m really not so concerned right now with whether my wardrobe fits my lifestyle because the first step for me is whether my wardrobe even FITS. Give birth to 3 kids. Changes you every.single.time. Totally worth it, of course. Just, ya know, trying to figure out the aftermath.

I realize this post is getting into way-too-long-mode, but just wanted to share one last thing. And that is my Style board on Pinterest. One piece of advice I’ve picked up from several style bloggers is to find a bunch of styles/outfits you like and then look for similarities to discover your style. That way, you know what to look for when you go clothes shopping instead of just buying something because it’s pretty. Or it’s a decent price. It just gives more intentionality to your shopping. Would love to have you follow along on this journey!
