DIY Curtains

If you follow me on instagram, you may remember this picture from 2 weeks ago. Just 2 gorgeous fabrics I found at Hobby Lobby:

Believe it or not, Jonathan helped me pick them out. I mean, I was the one putting most of the fabric options together, but he gave me his yea/nay input and even offered suggestions. {Man, I got a good guy!} Anyway, we went together to Hobby Lobby mainly so we could use 2 40% off coupons since I was planning to buy 2 different fabrics. Gotta love those money-saving deals!

My plan was to make curtains for my kids’ room. They’re sharing a room now in anticipation of baby arriving in October. Originally, I was going to go with more of a neutral boy/girl pattern. But I don’t know how long this room-sharing thing will last, so Jonathan encouraged me to just go with what Anna Grace & I loved.

Hence, this happened:

A note on the bed: isn’t that the smallest bunk bed you’ve ever seen? It was the same one Jonathan slept in when he was little. My in-laws are letting us use it & it is perfect. I love that it fits under the window. We added a railing on the top {the one that’s not stained yet} so Anna Grace wouldn’t roll off the bed. They are both doing great in it, though!

Back to the curtains. My original plan was to sew something like this:

But when I got the panels sewn up, it just didn’t look right. I was pretty bummed until I discovered I had some curtain clips left over from an Ikea trip {I used the same clips on these curtains}. They worked perfectly!

As for how I sewed the curtains, they’re literally just 2 big double-sided rectangles. They aren’t perfect, and if any seamstresses come over and inspect my work, I may hang my head in shame. Because I really have no clue what I’m doing on the sewing machine. I just pretend I know what I’m doing. And 80% of the time, things work out! It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful, right? {cue Nester}

Any seamstresses or wanna-be-scared-to-be seamstresses out there?
Come, come. If I can do it, you can knock it out of the park!!!
