As Christian parents, we want to teach our kids the Bible. And in our society, there is a wealth of information that makes this goal even more attainable! I am so thankful for people who use their knowledge and creativity to help me teach my kids about God’s Word. My goal in this post is to point you to some resources that can help you as you teach your kids the Bible. Some of these resources are extremely educational while others major more on fun than deep theological teaching, but I love using all of them as I teach the Bible to my children.
Here are 10 Bible resources my kids love:
- The Action Bible
My husband bought The Action Bible several years ago and I thought it was super weird until I actually read it. Written in a comic book style format, this book retells Bible stories in a way that makes them come alive! My kids love looking through this book and having us read to them. We also enjoy listening to the audio version while looking at the book.
- Bible.is
I use Bible.is every morning as my kids and I have Bible time together. The dramatized version makes the Bible stories come alive! I use it as an app on my phone, but you can also listen to it on a computer if that’s easier for you. Currently, we’re listening to Psalms and Proverbs. Sometimes my older kids follow along in their own Bibles, but mostly we just listen as we eat breakfast.
I’m a big fan of pain-free learning and verses set to music is exactly that. This album puts Bible verses to energetic music that I often play in the background as my kids play together. It’s true that sometimes they are disobeying while the “Children Obey Your Parents” song is playing, so I’m not going to promise immediate reform or anything. But, I love the fact that they’re hearing Scripture in a fun way and I especially love to hear them singing Scripture throughout the day.
This is a free app that teaches Bible stories in a super fun, interactive way. This is one I keep on my phone and pull out for special “waiting occasions” such as doctor and dentist appointments.
5. Jesus Storybook Bible videos
We don’t own the DVD but have found several short videos on youtube. Only 5-ish minutes long, I sometimes let my kids watch them after we’ve read the Bible story.
A counting primer that begins like this:
1 God,
2 natures of Jesus,
3 persons of the Trinity, etc.
I first saw this book a couple weeks ago. It’s a board book meant to appeal to babies but I am always glad to reinforce those truths in my life!
7. The Big Picture Story Bible
As the name implies, this story Bible gives a big picture of the overarching story of redemption throughout the Bible. Reading this with my kids gave me a better understanding of Scripture and has helped me as I explain Bible stories to my kids to not just focus on the story itself, but how it fits in with the overall theme of Scripture.
8. Long Story Short: Ten-Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God
Jonathan is using this book with our kids during our evening Bible time. I love how it goes slowly and systematically through the Old Testament and I love hearing my kids’ answers to the questions. This is a great resource for families!
I cannot recommend these videos enough for your furtherance in understanding the Bible—whether you’re studying an entire book or tracing a specific theme throughout Scripture. I started showing these videos to my kids last year as we began listening to the Bible out loud. For example, we watched the video about Genesis 1-11, then listened to that passage of Scripture over the next several days. I have greatly benefitted from seeing them cover a large book of the Bible in a few minutes because it helps me understand the overall themes of the book instead of focusing only on small details. (If you want to watch a theme video, check out the Image of God. I watched that one recently because my husband wrote on the image of God in his dissertation and I was trying to wrap my head around it.)
I just showed this list to my daughter and asked if there was anything else I should add. “Can you just put the Bible?” she asked.
Ahem.
So yes, this is the Bible I bought for my older kids. Jonathan and I gifted it to them after they learned to read. They love following along and seeing the pictures that go along with the stories.
We also use this ESV Family Bible during devotions every night. I like that it includes discussion questions after certain passages.
I trust this list will be helpful as you seek to better understand God’s Word!
May God give us wisdom and grace as we influence the children he has placed in our lives.

Thank you! We had a couple of these but love the other suggestions! We also love two YouTube Bible movies called Bible Stories for Children by user Oraine Brown. We let the kids watch them Sunday mornings while we get ready.
Thanks for your suggestion, Sarah! I’ll check it out.
And letting your kids watch it during the Sunday morning rush of getting ready? Brilliant!
