Day 10 :: Seasons of Life

Marriage is not a relationship you can only work on during the “good seasons” of life. This relationship requires work during all seasons. How can you build your marriage during the painful seasons of life?

“Over the years we have grown and life has brought us seasons of joy,
sleep deprivation,
easy living,
and down right “hold on, stay on your knees praying” really painful times.
Because of that we have done different things. What we do has changed and adapted to where we are in life.
Ecclesiastes comes to mind: a time to laugh…a time to cry kind of way.
So for these moments of our life I would say … we dream of our future together!
But long term we have done many things:
from laughing a lot
to just being willing to give each other time to hurt
and encouraging each other to heal.”

~ Joy, married 19 years ~

I love that last part. Throughout the years, both you and your spouse will have difficult seasons of life. The key?
“give each other time to hurt & encourage each other to heal”

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;

a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

What season of life is your spouse in right now?

If they are in a painful season, are you giving them time to hurt and gently encouraging them to heal?
