Sacrifice :: 15/52 + Book Winner

Sacrifice. What comes to your mind when you hear this word?

According to Merriam-Webster, sacrifice can be defined as the “destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else.”

Many things come to my mind when I think of this word. That’s because there are many people who have sacrificed for me.

Jesus sacrificed His very life for me.

My mom quite literally gave her body to me for 9 months – oh yes, and for at least 18 years afterwards.

Dad & Mom sacrificed so much for me through my years at home – money, time, sleep, oh, and let’s not forget this one – sanity.

My siblings never had to sacrifice for me because I was always such a blessing to them. Always meeting their needs before they could even ask. Never being a show-off when their friends came over, always giving the very best gifts at Christmas and birthdays. Just ask them. Oh wait, you can’t. Well, you can just take my word for it then. I’m sure you believe me.

All those things are wonderful. But difficult to capture in a picture.

But there is one sacrifice I can capture in a picture:

My engagement ring.

Given to me by my sweetheart on the day he asked me to marry him. He picked it out without any help from me. That’s because I didn’t even know what I wanted. And he did a good job.

Every time I look at this ring, I am reminded of the love and sacrifice my husband showed to me by buying this ring for me. In fact, as I type this, I can’t help but smile remembering the special way he proposed. I should write about it sometime.

But for now, I just love looking at my ring – and at my handsome hubby who gave it to me.

What do you think of when you hear the word “sacrifice?”
