Refreshing Cold Drinks

friday faves

It’s getting hot.

I mean, I realize I live in the South. And I also realize it’s only the end of May. But you know – I’m also pregnant. And that makes things a bit hotter. During every. single. one. of my pregnancies, I have craved icy cold drinks. They don’t need to be high in calories {although many hot afternoons have found me craving a chocolate peanut butter malt}; they just need to be super cold. Ice is optional. If it’s icy, I prefer it to be blended so I don’t have big ice chunks hitting me in the face as I drink.

So for today, I’m sharing a lovely list of refreshing cold drink recipes that have caught my eye. And I dare you not to feel thirsty by the time you get through with these pictures…

refreshing cold drinks

  1. Frappuccino Coffee, chocolate, and ice blended to make this delicious treat.
  2. {Instant} Iced Coffee – I can personally attest to this recipe. I’ve made it dozens {not an exaggeration} of times. No concentrates or refrigeration needed!
  3. Chocolate Ice Cubes – this site is in a different language, but you get the idea. Chocolate ice cubes with milk on top. Yum.
  4. Mocha Float – Coffee & cocoa over vanilla ice cream. Stop. Just stop.
  5. Refreshing Cucumber Drink – I’ve gotta admit – this sounds a little sketch. But cucumbers, limeade, and sprite definitely sound super refreshing, don’t they? I’m intrigued.
  6. Cool-aid – made with herbal tea bags & other good stuff. way better for you than powdery who-knows-what’s-in-’em packets.
  7. Lemonade with a Twist – {skip to #8 on the slide} lemons, blueberries, & fresh mint.
  8. Strawberry Limeade – strawberries, limes, ice, and sugar. looks mouth-watering!
  9. Copycat Orange Julius – I just tried this on Tuesday. Twice. Our ice cubes are smaller than normal ones, so I added ~2x the amount of ice called for in the recipe. I also added ~1/2 the amount of sugar and it was still super delish.
  10. Frozen Lemonade – {#10} this sounds like the perfect balance between tart & sweet. Personally, I’d make mine a tad on the tart side.
  11. Strawberry Lemonade Healthy Slurpee – I loved slurpees when I was a kid and was ridiculously excited when 7-11 stores came to North Carolina! But I wasn’t impressed when I tried them again. So sugary and sweet – it wasn’t as refreshing as I remembered. Looking forward to trying this recipe!

Also, don’t forget about this Smoothie recipe! There’s spinach in it but I promise you cannot taste it!! Coming from a girl who dreams about chocolate & peanut butter malts, that should tell you something. Just don’t OD on the spinach and everything will be amazing.

So, are you thirsty yet? Which one of these recipes are you going to try first?
I’m definitely up for the Orange Julius copycat recipe. I have all those things in my home currently, and I’m insanely curious to see if it tastes as good as it sounds!

  1. I have mint overtaking my garden, and I’ve been picking 6 or 8 sprigs and letting them steep in cold water for a few hours. It gives the water a slight mint taste but not too strong–really yummy! Would love to try the lemonade with a twist–I love blueberry and lemon together. Yum! (Oh wait–the link actually goes to the lexieskitchen site…but that one sounds good too!)

These sound amazing! I’m the same as you with this pregnancy and wanting super cold and icy drinks! Even my water has to be in the fridge or have ice for me to want to drink it. Thanks for the good ideas! I’m sure I will use them this summer. 🙂

  3. OOOooo – thanks for letting me know about the link switch-up! It’s fixed now! And yum – love that minty water idea. Sounds so refreshing!

  4. Good! Hope you love them! I’m definitely going to be getting more orange juice concentrate to make that copycat orange julius again!
