Welcome to the first interview for our Mom Series!

Mom Series :: love these 'mom interviews!' great ideas here!

Our first Mom is Ruth Soukup from Living Well Spending Less. I was first introduced to Ruth’s blog by reading her e-book, How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul. {if you’re a blogger, this is an excellent resource that I recommend to everyone who asks me blogging questions!}

1. how many kiddos do you have?
I have 2 girls – Maggie who is 7 and Annie who is 4.

2. what’s one thing you do when you want to prove love to your kids?
My girls are never happier than when I agree to play hide-and-go-seek with them.  They would play that all day if they could!

3. what’s the best parenting advice you ever received?
The best advice I’ve gotten from a friend was to teach your children how to act in social situations, and be clear about your expectations. We always have the 5 minute pep-talk in the car before we go anywhere! It really helps them focus and behave.

4. fave activity to do with your kids?
My kids love to do crafts and to be honest I do too! We also love movie nights with popcorn and hot chocolate. Other activities are cooking together, reading, and playing Legos.

5. how do you encourage your kids to talk with you?
At dinner we always play a game High-Low, where they share the high’s and low’s of their day. It always results in a ton of discussion!

6. how do you make time for one-on-one time with your kids?
I try to take into account the different activities that each girl likes, and spend time doing something they love.

7. if you could only teach your child one character trait, what would it be?

8. what do you do to add a little sweetness to the mundane tasks {laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc.} of mommy-hood?
With cleaning the girl’s room, we turn it into a game. We see who can clean their part the fastest!

9. do you have any fun traditions you do (for birthdays, random days, etc.)?
We always eat Dutch Babies for breakfast on birthdays and Christmas. We also love going to the firehouse on Christmas Eve and sharing cookies with the fireman.

10. fave parenting/mom book?
The Happiest Baby on the Block was really good.  I don’t think I’ve read any other parenting books since then! 🙂

11. what’s the meal you make when you forgot about supper?
My super simple Vegetable Frittata is definitely my go-to meal.

12. fave way to unwind from mama duties?
I really enjoy reading in my down time, and of course pinning on Pinterest!

Aren’t her girls adorable? I love the ‘High-Low’ conversation starter they use at dinner time. Would love to try that when my kids get a little older.
