Feed the Babe

9 bananas.
26 zucchini.
15 pounds of sweet potatoes.

Cooking for a large crowd?
Nope. just my son.

Did I mention that he’s only 6 months? Wow. He’s a big eater. And he definitely doesn’t get that from his Daddy.

See this pile of stuff?

Here’s another angle for ya:

I made all that last week. All together, it’s about 38.85 cups of food. Wowzers.

I knew I wanted to make homemade baby food for my little man because of how inexpensive and healthy  it is. So I went to the store and grabbed a couple of these:

There were a few things I was looking for in containers:

  • BPA-free
  • freezer safe
  • microwaveable
  • 1/2 cup proportions
As you can see, these little gems met the requirements and passed with flying colors:

I found mine at Walmart for about $2.

Next week, I’ll share a couple easy-peasy “recipes” (can you even call them that?) for making your own baby food. But for starters…if you’re interested in making your own…start stocking up on containers!

  1. neato! I have always thought that would be neat (and inexpensive) to make your own baby food! looking forward to your “recipes” – maybe I will make one for my nephew! 🙂

  2. I used to just take what was for supper and grind it up in the food processor for the little one. At the time her favorites would be chicken pot pie and some other casseroles. She did not like meat all that much though. I think for next baby I will make some ahead of time for when there is food baby cannot eat so I don’t have to buy so much baby food.

  3. good for you! it’s nice to have the pre-packaged baby food for traveling, but I like using homemade for times when we’re home. 🙂

  4. you will laugh when you see my recipes. 😉

  5. I always make my baby food too. Lucy is not eating any yet though because we’ve got major food allergies in the family so the doc says to wait until at least 6 months. I make all kinds of crazy stuff and my kiddos loved it..avacado with spinach and apples was Levi’s favorite, lol! =)

  6. Yes, I agree with you there about needing some prepackaged baby food for traveling, running errands, etc.

  7. Nom nom nom…crazy what babies love. 🙂
