A New Venture

venture:
an undertaking involving uncertainty as to the outcome, especially a risky or dangerous one:
a mountain-climbing venture.

Well, considering the definition of the word, maybe “venture” is not quite the word I’m looking for. oh well. I will use it anyway. You see, my venture is really not risky or dangerous. It has nothing to do with mountain-climbing. The biggest thing it has going for it is the “uncertainty” part. Yes, it definitely has that in its favor. Allow me to explain.

Normally, I post something about crafts on Mondays. Well, let me let you in on a little secret. {i haven’t been doing any crafts.} hello? are you still there? are you all going to abandon me because I have jumped off the craft bandwagon for the moment? ah!!!

I still enjoy crafts. In fact, I still have several I want to work on in the near future. But I’ve been working on something else instead. (Besides, I didn’t want to get in a bad habit of making some little craft “just because I have to have something to post about on Monday.” you know what I mean?

Alright, all of you who are still reading. All 2 of you;)…here’s the new venture: photography.

If you follow me on facebook, you might have noticed the link I recently posted to a photography site. That’s what I’ve been spending my free time on lately.

It’s called 31 Days to a Better Photo and is written by Darcy of Life with my 3 Boybarians.

If you are at all interested in photography, I highly recommend you to check this 31 day series out. Now, it would definitely be more useful to you if you own a dslr camera. But she shares tips that are helpful even if your camera is a point & shoot.

I am currently ready to start day 19. I’ve been taking time to work through it and learn things bit by bit. It’s been a lot of work and time, but great fun in the process. My daughter is getting very used to the camera. 🙂

Here’s one of my fave pics of late:

Do you know why I like it?
Number 1: it’s of my daughter.
Number 2: I love the lighting and focus.

Anyway, I took that picture using some things I learned from Darcy’s 31 days series. I hope that’s a little motivation for you to go check it out. 🙂

Well, that’s my new venture I’m working on. What do you think? Any of you working on photography like I am? I would love to know any tips you have!

~Christa 🙂

  1. yay! checking it out now! don’t know if I have time right now to work through the 31 days but will definitely save it for later.

Love the picture too – she is so cute and you are right the light and focus is great! I think focus is one of my hardest things right now – gotta work on that.

Thank you for sharing the link to the photo series. I will definitely be checking it out! You will be so thankful that you took this class and these photos when your precious girl is grown! Which will be in the blink of an eye!

  3. Very true, Mary Lou! I hope you enjoy the series! I am looking forward to the next 12 days of learning!

  4. good for you! One of the hardest things for me has been actually TAKING OUT MY CAMERA!!! Thankfully, my baby loves to be outside, so I try to use those times to practice my picture taking on her…or the grass…or an innocent bystander. 😉

  5. Great pic! I’m going to check out the 31 days to a better photo series. I just got a dslr and I’m learning how to use it.

  6. Thanks Briana! Yep – as you can tell, I highly recommend that series. I’m just working through it as I have time…not really doing the whole “1-a-day” thing, but it’s been awesome. Hope it’s a help to you!

  8. Thanks so much, Susan! I kinda like her. 😉
