Day 4 :: A Big Job

Does the thought of building your marriage seem overwhelming?
It should! Marriage is a big job! Here are two thoughts on marriage from a wife of 13 years:
“Parenting is a big job. I need God!” I think you could say the same thing for marriage.
It’s a big job and takes a lot of hard work to have the kind of marriage God wants. We need God!
And how neat that He invites us to come to Him for wisdom and strength (Dan 2:20).
I think the sweetest and most helpful unifier in our marriage has studing God’s Word together.
We have studied the same passage separately for 13 years now. We have our own “God and I” times, but study the same passage.
Of course, we do other things too, but our in-depth study is generally the same.
The Lord has worked in both our lives in a similar vein.
It has been so neat and I think it is one of the main reasons we are so close – and that we think alike. It fosters spiritual conversation.
Marriage is essentially a discipleship relationship. And the Word of God is central in discipleship.”
~ Kelly, married 13 years ~
The verse Kelly referenced says this:

“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,
to whom belong wisdom and might.”
~ Daniel 2:20

Truly, building your marriage is impossible without the help and wisdom of God.

The good news? He doesn’t leave us alone. James 1:5 says:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

You do not have to be alone in this job of marriage. The perfect wisdom of God is available to you.

All you have to do is ask.
